5 Reasons You Should Recycle

Some people are stubborn. They don’t know why they should recycle, and they refuse to. There are so many good reasons to research recycling and begin partaking, though. If you don’t recycle or you know someone who won’t, let me change your mind.

Reasons to Recycle

1. Dumps are already too full

Landfills are quickly reaching capacity. As much as 47% of waste taken to landfills is municipal solid waste. This includes plastic, metal, glass, and other similar materials. Much of this material is able to be recycled, and that would significantly decrease the amount of trash we accumulate in our dumps. The amount of time it would take to fill the landfills would decrease, which could also provide more time for us to determine the best way to handle our waste.

2. Make into reusable materials

Recycling can allow for cheap, energy-efficient production. It takes less resources to recycle product than it does to completely manufacture a new product, which means it is economically and environmentally friendly.

3. You might be paying for it

Some municipalities include the price of recycling with the price of trash pick-up. If you’re paying for the service, you might as well make sure you’re getting your money’s worth. Check out your municipality’s website to find out if you can start setting out your recyclable materials.

4. Reduces depletion of natural resources

Whether or not you’re an environmentalist, there is no denying that recycling cuts down on the amount of needed natural resources. For example, recycled cardboard can cut down on the number of trees needed to make the sheet of paper that becomes cardboard. Instead of starting fresh with entirely new wood pulp, the recycling plants can mix some new wood pulp with existing cardboard, simply to fortify the material.

5. It’ll drive you to use reusable products (and save money!)

Recycling can be a burden, especially if you have to take your recyclables to a collection facility to surrender. Rather than transporting one hundred plastic water bottles, consider getting a reusable glass water bottle. It will save you time and money, as well as provide an eco-friendly solution that requires little effort from you. The best part about glass water bottles is many are dishwasher safe and contain no harmful chemicals, which can be found in some plastic water bottles.

Recycling is one of the easiest ways you can help the environment, and it takes next-to-nothing to do. If you’re new to recycling, take action and start making a difference today.
